We discussed the explosion of prophecy in 2020 and reflected on prophecy not only under the new covenant but also the abundance of schools of prophets throughout the old covenant as well and throughout all times.
“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
The Greek word translated ‘testimony’ is the word ‘marturia’ where we get our word martyr. The original sense of our word martyr is one who gives his life as a witness to the truth.
A true prophet puts his life on the line because he knows the consequence of speaking as one speaking the words of God. A prophet offers his life as a deposit as evidence of the truth, merit and validity of the words he speaks. A prophet puts his life on the line and stands behind the words he speaks with his very life.
This ‘martyr’ testimony of JESUS is the spirit of prophecy
