I know a highly respected man who, a number of years ago, and with great sincerity, made a confession to a group of men under his leadership. He confessed to us all that his greatest strength is humility.
I have never forgotten that and shortly thereafter developed a simple system which is still in use to this day. This simple system is called the spiritual pH scale whereby individuals rank themselves on the scale from 0 – 14.
Pride being 0
Humility being 14
And 7 being perfect
This self ranking system is extremely useful for those who are trained in the proper analytical techniques…
Wisdom in the WORD 
Maybe the terms need defining. At least I’m not sure how 7 can be perfect.

So with James 4:6, do we settle for being only partially opposed by God and partially in His grace?
Maybe a scale or spectrum is not the way to evaluate this.
