Understanding God’s Work
Katartizó, katartismos
To arrange, set in order, fit together, put in order, knit, sew together, mend, fix, restore, prepare, repair, adjust, bring to fitness, align, restore to soundness, complete, perfect, resolve, make whole
By faith we understand that the universe was formed (katartizó) at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Hebrews 11:3
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body (sōma) you prepared (katartizó) for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, my God.’ ”
Hebrews 10:5-7
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears (ōzen) you have opened (karita)—burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as you know. I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly.
Psalm 40:5-10
For you created (qanita) my inmost being (kilyotay); you knit me together (tesukeni) in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame (atsemi) was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together (ruqamti) in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body (galemi); all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.
Psalm 139:13-18
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip (katartismos) his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:4, 11-16

[20] Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, [21] equip [katartisai] you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.
