Jeremiah 31
Evening Devotion
It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. Romans 9:6-8
The old covenant is obsolete.
God’s people have always been those who are in covenant with Him. When the old covenant was replaced with the new covenant in Jesus blood, there no longer remained a place for any people to come to God and find favor through the old obsolete covenant. Thus, those who are God’s people are no longer those according to the flesh. No longer is the earthly lineage of Jacob a designation of God’s people. Rather, those who are God’s children through the blood of Jesus are the chosen people.

And yet the Abrahamic covenant and promise remains in place.
“Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.
Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ.
What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.”
