I have shared a number of times with students and others that Elohim breathed Ruach into man’s body and he became a living soul.
However, looking more closely, the creation account itself does not say that He breathed Ruach into man’s body.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed [va’yipach] into his nostrils [b’apav] the breath [nismat] of life [l’chayim]; and man became a living being [l’nepesh chayah]. Genesis 2:7
Nevertheless
All in whose nostrils [b’apav] was the breath [nismat] of the spirit [ruach] of life [chayim], all that was on the dry land, died. Genesis 7:22
Furthermore
But there is a spirit [ruach] in man, And the breath [nismat] of the Almighty gives him understanding. Job 32:8
And for us
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:22
