So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. Mark 6:12-13
Question: Where did the evil spirits go which were plaguing people and being cast out by JESUS and the disciples during the first century?
Where did the demons go which were sent out of Legion into the herd of swine after the pigs ran over the cliff and presumably died?
Do you want to know what JESUS taught us about these things?
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” Matthew 12:43-45
Arid places. Remember this?
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:1, 13
And so, later we are taught more about the work of the Holy Spirit
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. I Corinthians 12:7-10
May the LORD equip His people for every good work He desires to do. Let us be devoted to Him in prayer and be aware of the devils schemes and not be deceived by doctrines of demons.
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. I Timothy 4:1
Here is a word of exhortation, following up on this earlier post above, with further insight into how we are to be aware of sound doctrine and beware of the devil’s trickery. The key phrase in mind is people who despise authority, and here is context to help understand what the LORD says about these things. We must understand the LORD’s authority and know how to discern His Way and beware of man’s way.
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries. II Peter 2:1-3,10
