Authority & the Angels

1 Corinthians 11:10

“For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.”

Interlinear Greek
“Because of this ought the woman (gynē) authority (exousian) to have on the head on account of the angels (angelous).”

Some claim that this passage is cultural. The reference to authority and especially to angels should give us pause. That is not to say that this could not also still be relevant to that region. However, such a reading would seem to require a belief that this is not a reference to some universal relevance about angels.

So, here is a question

Does the same situation regarding authority and angels still apply in Corinth or even elsewhere today, or were these matters of authority and angels only present and relevant in first century Corinth?

  1. The head covering was a symbol revealing to those around the woman that she was under authority of a man (who is the glory of GOD), whether her dad or husband. Today, wearing a head covering would mean something if ANY woman were under the authority of a man, but so few are anymore. The feministic society has removed that distinction.

If there were a melancholy wife who fully submitted to her husband, this might apply, but with any other type of woman, it wouldn’t work. However, if the husband is truly a man of GOD and can “pray her into submission,” while showing true CHRIST-like love and humility himself, then it would work.

Miracles still happen? On either side of that marriage?
