Hearing the WORD

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the WORD of God.” Romans 10:17

“Devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture.” 1 Timothy 4:13

“But be doers of the WORD, and not hearers only.” James 1:22

We are a movement of God’s people reading His WORD aloud daily.

Asaph

ASAPH ā’ săf (אָסָ֖ף, collecter or gatherer)

The Psalmist Asaph

The most prominent person bearing this name was Asaph, son of Berachiah, of the family of Gershom, who headed the service of music in the reigns of David and Solomon (1 Chron 6:39; 15:17; 16:5; 2 Chron 5:12). Superscriptions of twelve psalms (Ps. 50, 73-83) indicate Asaphic authorship. On the basis of the contents of these poems it has been suggested that there were two Asaphs, one who composed Psalms 50, 73, 76, 78 and possibly 75, 77, 82, all in David’s time. Psalms 74, 79, and prob. 83 fit the time of the Babylonian exile.

The style of Asaph is distinctive, forceful, and spiritual. He is referred to as a prophet and poet (2 Chron 29:30; Neh 12:46). He was one of David’s three musicians along with Heman and Ethan or Jeduthun. Asaph is first mentioned when the Ark of the covenant was transferred to Jerusalem from the home of Obed-edom (1 Chron 15:16-19). He led the service of music in the tent where the Ark was kept (1 Chron 16:4, 5, 7, 37). The other chief musicians performed the same ministry at Gibeon (16:41, 42). With Heman and Jeduthun he was called the king’s seer (1 Chron 25:5, 6; 2 Chron 35:15).

Four of Asaph’s sons conducted under him and participated in the dedication of the Temple (2 Chron 5:12). The “sons of Asaph” are mentioned as choristers in the Temple (1 Chron 25:1; 2 Chron 20:14). The office seems to have been hereditary (1 Chron 25:1, 2). From all indications, in addition to leading the singing and sounding the cymbals before the Ark, Asaph headed a school of music, where his children are said to number 148 (Neh 7:44). The sons of Asaph do not appear to be very prominent before the Exile. Some 128 of his family returned from Babylon (Ezra 2:41) and served in Zerubbabel’s temple (Ezra 3:10). The sons of Asaph of later times formed a guild and were prominent in the revivals of the nation’s faith. They shared the ministry of music with the sons of Korah in the later period of OT history.

I AM JESUS

Isaiah 49

The more you seek after the LORD, the more you read and study His WORD. The more you look at Him and come to Him, the more you see, the more you realize, the more you know Who He is. He is the LORD, YHVH, our Savior, our Redemeer, the Almighty, the Holy One of Israel.

He is the One to Whom and from Whom and for Whom all things are and were created, and in Whom all things hold together. He is the Aleph and the Taw, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.

And He is the fulfillment of all things. He is the one in Whom all of His designs and creations are fulfilled and completed. He is the Perfect One. He is the One in Whom is all which was ever foretold, all which ever was announced before hand, all which ever was declared and promised, hoped and longed for.

He is YHVH YESHUA our Redeemer and King, the Holy One of Israel, Israel is His Name, Yeshua, JESUS Whom we worship. He is the All Sufficient One.

Your Thoughts, O God

Psalm 139

Have you ever read Psalm 139? Most who read this have certainly read it. Perhaps you have not yet. Would you read it now? Before reading further, let us all read the entirety of Psalm 139 right now.

Reading Psalm 139:1-24…

Now, we have all read Psalm 139.

There is so much here. So incredibly much.

Likely the most well known and most referenced verses are the passage 13-16, and justifiably so.

Likely the least known and least referenced verses are the passage 19-22.

This passage is couched between 2 somewhat more familiar and referenced passages 17-18 and 23-24.

It is not for no reason. These two passages greatly aid grappling with the middle passage and may well be key to understanding this passage, especially from a new covenant perspective. These passages also expressly align with and complete the entire Psalm which begins with the contemplative introductory opening reflection on thoughts.

In this Psalm, we encounter the thoughts of man contrasted with the thoughts of God.

We also have some fresh thoughts in mind from an in depth group study and discussion of the first 2 chapters of Genesis including specific reflections on Elohim, Ruach Elohim & YHVH Elohim.

In this Psalm, the man of Judah grapples with anxious thoughts which are in conflict with each other. Here we read conflicting thoughts of man on one hand regarding the evil thoughts and intentions of wicked men. What we learn from the WORD, is that all mankind is desperately wicked. However, we learn of the God Man the thoughts of the LORD YHVH. He is the One who taught us the thoughts of God regarding such evil men with evil intentions and evil works.

Spiritual Authority

God is Spirit
JESUS is Spirit

When we pray, we engage in spiritual activity.

The LORD maintains order and authority in the spirit realm.

When there is spiritual disorder, God disciplines and has even punished powers for their disobedience. The rulers and authorities know this and know that God is the ultimate Sovereign. They gladly aim to deceive people, and many are deceived. We, however are not unaware of the enemy’s schemes.

The LORD also teaches us to understand proper authority. And so we understand the purpose of covering during prayer and prophecy because the LORD has given us clear instruction and clarity that these things have to do with spiritual matters and the matter of proper authority under God so that our prayers and prophecy are not hindered. 1P3:7 1C11 Jude
