We Will Rejoice!

Psalm 64

The righteous will rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him!
Psalms 64:10

Do we just ignore verses 1-9 and go to verse 10? I will go straight to verse 10 and let some others chime in on verses 1-9. As for me and my house, we will rejoice in Yahweh!

The past few days have also been a reminder to me that all these psalms are inherently songs. So, while we primarily focus on the content, as we should (just as when we talk with young people about the importance of the lyrics of what they listen to), it’s noteworthy to remember that there is still also the music itself.

The music itself is also an amazing gift from God, especially when we consider all the ways in which everything about singing also brings together those who continue daily seeking hard after JESUS as we walk this pilgrim way.

Here is an otherwise unknown rendition of an equally rarely known old hymn by a widely known modern title.

Victory Over The Enemy

Psalm 60

Victory Over The Enemy

With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
Psalms 60:12

A recent correct observation in another group regarding hating wickedness has renewed truth about the seriousness of these things. Faithful understanding of scripture does require this strong eternal divide between righteousness and wickedness.

God will trample down His enemies. He has given unimaginable grace through JESUS. God forbid that anyone should reject Him. He will trample down His enemies.

Let us extend God’s mercy fervently so none we encounter will be deceived to think they are safe when they are not.

Should we in this time of grace aim to recognize God’s enemies and acknowledge them as our own? This requires great care and discernment so as not to refuse grace to those who persecute us when God in fact extends grace to them as he has to us.

This renewed realization of God’s enemies is a call for us to desire to know the heart of God even more fully.

Psalm 14 & 53: A Comparison Study

Psalm 14 & 53: A Comparison Study

Someone was playing an oud.

David heard it and became interested too. Once he started playing as a young boy he got to be very good at it. As time went on, David became accustomed to taking his strings with him out to pasture where there were shepherds in the fields guarding their flocks by night.

David would play his kinnor* and also began writing down the words to his songs. These were later collected, compiled and included in the edition we now have of the book of ancient Psalms.

Note: There are two main numbering systems of the chapters in Psalms. This is important to remember especially when looking at references which may come from anything written in another language (e.g. Dutch).

Psalm 14

Heading: [to be transcribed]

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the Lord. But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the Lord is their refuge. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
Psalms 14:1‭-‬7

Psalm 53

Heading: [to be transcribed]

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on God. But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread. God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; you put them to shame, for God despised them. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
Psalms 53:1‭-‬6

Enemies

Enemies

What are enemies?

Focusing on these past few chapters in the psalms finds me pondering something I have never taken a closer look at before.

Just a bit of reflection seems to lead naturally to this quandary, this place of bewilderment, wondering genuinely what others in the world and perhaps what different groups or the majority in different cultures, lands and generations understand and experience. Clearly, this is still a modern concept because we have this common word. Yet, reading these Psalms and beginning to look closely at the scriptures, it seems clear that something is different, something changed.

Thank You, JESUS!

The obvious conclusion is simply that JESUS came and changed things. Likely, there are many who live in and have always known a world and an existence in which the word enemy means the same now as it did then.

Only in JESUS is this word, this hateful reality in the world, expunged of all its destructive force. In JESUS, the ubiquitous meaning of enemy has been made defunct. All the hate has been expunged. Enemy has lost its meaning. It has been declawed. It’s death has been sucked out. It’s venom gland removed. It’s hateful fire snuffed out. A life saturated in JESUS has been released from a world in conflict, and neither enemies nor the essence of an enemy have any power or any of their meaning, not even any explanatory power, because JESUS nullified them, disarmed them at the cross.

Similar to other things of this world God removes and destroys, they are no more.

Like when the accuser goes to God with accusations against God’s new creations…

The eternal voice of thunder answers

“Sin, what sin?”

It has been removed, expunged, annihilated, eradicated, vaporized

This is also what happens both to enemies of God and even now with enemies in a world transformed by God.

“Enemies? What enemies?”

Spiritual pH Level

I know a highly respected man who, a number of years ago, and with great sincerity, made a confession to a group of men under his leadership. He confessed to us all that his greatest strength is humility.

I have never forgotten that and shortly thereafter developed a simple system which is still in use to this day. This simple system is called the spiritual pH scale whereby individuals rank themselves on the scale from 0 – 14.

Pride being 0
Humility being 14
And 7 being perfect

This self ranking system is extremely useful for those who are trained in the proper analytical techniques…

Fighting Words

Psalm 55

Today’s psalm is an absolute MUST READ. There have already been a number of significant posts in other groups.

This is a deep psalm with serious weight. Let us read closely and reflect deeply as we meditate in God’s WORD here today. Let us be careful as we read to understand correctly and rightly divide this WORD of Truth lest we misunderstand and ourselves be found guilty of how this psalm may apply to us. God grant that we may walk uprightly before You and with our fellow man.

“My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant. His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.”
Psalms 55:20‭-‬21

Marriage Divine

They were previously married to the Law of Moses

Moses died and the Law of that former union was also declared obsolete as a result of the finished work of Christ

We are betrothed to the new husband JESUS the KING of kings

We look forward to the marriage supper of the Lamb

_____

They, except by faith, were not permitted to experience the rapture of the love and freedom of the grace which are in Christ.

We have not yet been wedded with Him in that heavenly marriage

And yet

Speaking in this mystery

We are already seated with Him in heavenly places

Pray & Do & Pray

Just now

In answer to a request for prayer regarding something which seems doable:

Yes, praying. And is there anything all of us together can do also as we pray?

Praying with eyes open
As we said growing up
Bid en werk: Pray & work

This is always how we ought to pray when there is anything in our God-given ability.

We pray together for strength to do everything God wants us to do AND then we pray together for God to do everything He wants that we cannot do

We can do ALL things through Christ who gives us strength!

Enemies, Foes & Slanderers

Psalm 54

Honestly, I do not ever want to think like David expressed in verses 3, 5 & 7 of this psalm.

It would have been understandable for Corrie ten Boom, but she chose the New Covenant Path and discovered true victory. I want the victory she had even in the greatest possible trial. I do not want the victory David prayed for here in this psalm. Honestly.

“Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them.”
Psalm 54:5

LORD, have mercy on us all.
