Isaiah 14
“And so we come to…”
Isaiah 14
These introductory words are the now iconic opening words of Dr J Vernon McGee as he would begin the study of a new chapter in his 5 year Bible bus radio program.
These words just came to mind as I began to turn to this momentous chapter of Isaiah 14. This chapter is always and forever linked in my thinking with the parallel chapter of Ezekiel 28. I did a quick search to see if somehow I could perhaps easily access one of McGee’s audio surveys of Isaiah 14 online.
My initial search produced the well known ttb.org site as well as an initial McGee result in sermon central. I may still be able to find audio of one of his addresses on this specific chapter of Isaiah which we have in view today, but it will take a bit more searching.
For now, that initial search led me to this 2 part audio study of this epic chapter. I am launching us out today using this initial resource which I have not yet listened to at this initial posting.
This WTW daily discipleship plan is a dynamic study, and I pray more will continue to R.E.A.D and walk together in the light of God’s WORD.
As always, we love to hear from and engage with you both through your replies, thoughts, comments on these blog posts as well as directly through our various platforms and in both virtual, distance and in-person individual and group meetings.
May the LORD bless the hearing of HIS powerful WORD.
And now, here is a link to the audio podcast of Dr Baruch Korman for
Isaiah 14, Part 1
When he prepares to read the text at the 07:45 minute mark you may want to follow along using the interlinear available by following this link below
Isaiah 14 INT
Fascinating! I am updating this as I listen. I ended up listening to McGee and posting the update below first. Then I went back to Korman and am listening there now. He mentions many things we spoke about yesterday in our 2/13/2021 WTW zoom and then at the 22:00 minute mark he read the word in the text which caught my attention.
A quick look back and sure enough, there it is connected both to the WTW paroimia and micron posts as well as in Qoheleth l’Mishlei which draws from the same root word, mashal. Yes, I even connect this all the way back to that foundation as a young person in Proverbs, that foundation laid down by GB.
Update:
Well, what do you know! What a joy after a number of years since last hearing McGee, to hear once again the long time familiar ttb program. What a blessing to hear this old time study with these iconic opening sounds of McGee’s through the Bible radio program. Now extremely easy to find, search and stream in a host of ways.
Here now is the link to the audio of the episode which begins in Isaiah 13 and then continues into the beginning of Isaiah 14 where we are in WTW today.
Here is the TTB program for
Isaiah 13:19 – Isaiah 14:14
At the 13:30 minute mark we hear the words:
“Now we come to chapter 14…”
Such a powerful message declared here.
McGee reads all the verses from 13:19 – 14:14 except just a few which I will include here below for easy reference. Verses 9 and 10, he passed over and verse 11 he only briefly touched on, likely just for the sake of time.
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
