What is His Name?

Isaiah 16

In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it—one from the house of David—one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.
Isaiah 16:5

Who is this man?

Do you know his name?

Surely I am only a brute, not a man; I do not have human understanding. I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One. Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!
Proverbs 30:2‭-‬4

Isaiah wrote the first passage above about this man over 2500 years ago.

Agur wrote this second passage about this man about 3000 years ago. In learning the ways of God, Agur became aware of his own ignorance.

The same is true of us when we also truly learn the ways of God. We become aware of our own ignorance, and that is when God is able to give us a glimpse of His great wisdom, exactly like He did to both Agur & Isaiah as we read these passages.

So who is this man?

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5

Isaiah 15

A prophecy against Moab: Ar in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night!
Isaiah 15:1

Who is this man, Isaiah?

We can often glean so much more about how to live, and indeed in our actual living, through walking with the Godly.

A close runner up can sometimes be a character study of a Godly one.

So, who is this man, Isaiah?

This is what comes to mind first as I read the opening words of this chapter. I cannot help imagine him writing these words. What strange words to our modern ears. Indeed, essentially meaningless words to most hearers.

Let us study. We certainly have so much in the biblical history and the historical record, and beyond that we actually have an overwhelming abundance of sources on this man, this prophet of God. As McGee says, this prince of prophets.

What was going on the night Isaiah wrote these words here?

What is going on with you, with me this very night?

Certainly, we are living in the midst of the miracle of our lives. Let us walk circumspectly as those running a race.

Let us live in the light of that Great Day of Yahweh.

Isaiah 14

“And so we come to…”

Isaiah 14

These introductory words are the now iconic opening words of Dr J Vernon McGee as he would begin the study of a new chapter in his 5 year Bible bus radio program.

These words just came to mind as I began to turn to this momentous chapter of Isaiah 14. This chapter is always and forever linked in my thinking with the parallel chapter of Ezekiel 28. I did a quick search to see if somehow I could perhaps easily access one of McGee’s audio surveys of Isaiah 14 online.

My initial search produced the well known ttb.org site as well as an initial McGee result in sermon central. I may still be able to find audio of one of his addresses on this specific chapter of Isaiah which we have in view today, but it will take a bit more searching.

For now, that initial search led me to this 2 part audio study of this epic chapter. I am launching us out today using this initial resource which I have not yet listened to at this initial posting.

This WTW daily discipleship plan is a dynamic study, and I pray more will continue to R.E.A.D and walk together in the light of God’s WORD.

As always, we love to hear from and engage with you both through your replies, thoughts, comments on these blog posts as well as directly through our various platforms and in both virtual, distance and in-person individual and group meetings.

May the LORD bless the hearing of HIS powerful WORD.

And now, here is a link to the audio podcast of Dr Baruch Korman for

Isaiah 14, Part 1

When he prepares to read the text at the 07:45 minute mark you may want to follow along using the interlinear available by following this link below

Isaiah 14 INT

Fascinating! I am updating this as I listen. I ended up listening to McGee and posting the update below first. Then I went back to Korman and am listening there now. He mentions many things we spoke about yesterday in our 2/13/2021 WTW zoom and then at the 22:00 minute mark he read the word in the text which caught my attention.

A quick look back and sure enough, there it is connected both to the WTW paroimia and micron posts as well as in Qoheleth l’Mishlei which draws from the same root word, mashal. Yes, I even connect this all the way back to that foundation as a young person in Proverbs, that foundation laid down by GB.

Update:

Well, what do you know! What a joy after a number of years since last hearing McGee, to hear once again the long time familiar ttb program. What a blessing to hear this old time study with these iconic opening sounds of McGee’s through the Bible radio program. Now extremely easy to find, search and stream in a host of ways.

Here now is the link to the audio of the episode which begins in Isaiah 13 and then continues into the beginning of Isaiah 14 where we are in WTW today.

Here is the TTB program for

Isaiah 13:19 – Isaiah 14:14

At the 13:30 minute mark we hear the words:

“Now we come to chapter 14…”

Such a powerful message declared here.

McGee reads all the verses from 13:19 – 14:14 except just a few which I will include here below for easy reference. Verses 9 and 10, he passed over and verse 11 he only briefly touched on, likely just for the sake of time.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
Isaiah 14:9‭-‬11

I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.

In That Day

In that day you will say: “I will praise YOU, YAHWEH.

In that day…

What day?

Have you seen that day?

Is that day past, present, future?

Is today that day?

Is it tomorrow?

Post below something you can share from your experience or any questions or insights you have about THAT DAY.

Here is the rest of Isaiah 12 below. Read each portion carefully, and pick one or more to reflect on and share more about what Yahweh is speaking to you here today from HIS WORD.

Although YOU were angry with me, YOUR anger has turned away and YOU have comforted me.

Surely EL IS MY YESHUA.

I will trust and not be afraid for YAH YAHWEH is my strength and song, and HE has become MY YESHUA.

With joy you will draw water from the wells of YESHUA.

In that day you will say: “Give praise to YAHWEH, proclaim HIS name!”

Make known among the nations what HE has done!

Isaiah 12

In that day you will say: “I will praise YOU, YAHWEH. Although YOU were angry with me, YOUR anger has turned away and YOU have comforted me. Surely EL IS MY YESHUA; I will trust and not be afraid for YAH YAHWEH is my strength and song, and HE has become MY YESHUA.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of YESHUA. In that day you will say: “Give praise to YAHWEH, proclaim HIS name; make known among the nations what HE has done, and proclaim that HIS name is exalted. Sing to YAHWEH, for HE has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the HOLY ONE OF YISRAEL among you.”

Isaiah 12:1‭-‬6

But after he had considered this, an angel of THE LORD appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from THE HOLY SPIRIT. She will give birth to a SON, and you are to give HIM THE NAME YESHUA, because HE will SAVE HIS people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what THE LORD had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a SON, and they will call HIM IMMANUEL” (which means “GOD with us”).
Matthew 1:20‭-‬23

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, GOD sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! THE LORD is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with GOD. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him YESHUA. He will be great and will be called the SON OF THE MOST HIGH. THE LORD GOD will give him the throne of HIS father David, and HE will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; HIS kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “THE HOLY SPIRIT will come on you, and the power of THE MOST HIGH will overshadow you. So THE HOLY ONE to be born will be called THE SON OF GOD.
Luke 1:26‭-‬35

The Real Ruler

WTW 2021
February 11
Isaiah 11

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. Isaiah 11:1‭-‬5

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:10‭-‬20

Apocalipsis 6:15‭-‬17

Rightly Dividing

11 February 2021

A dear brother sent me an article yesterday on a topic, and particularly by a well known preacher, that caught my attention immediately. Before reading, I responded:

“Would you join me in studying and walking this out together through the lens of God’s WORD beginning today?”

Then I began reading the article – and it is a lengthy one. When I got to paragraph 35, I noticed a baby and bath water moment where I paused, and before reading further, I am posting this here.

Would any of you others you like to do the same that I proposed to the brother who sent me the article – even as we continue to R.E.A.D. daily through the book of Isaiah we have begun this month?

Our aim as followers of JESUS always and ever remains exactly the same each and every day:

“Whoever claims to live in HIM must walk as JESUS did.”

We often say Both/And, because in the center of the narrow road, this so often characterizes the Truth so plainly and evidently revealed to us by the Both/And of the water & the blood, the Spirit & the WORD, the Logos & the rhema, the faith & the works, the believing & the doing.

We diligently study the scriptures, and so we MUST come to JESUS Who alone is the living WORD of GOD.
