Isaiah 31
Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.
Isaiah 31:6
—
God’s heart cry is always and forever for His people to return to Him, their Maker and Lover of their souls.
Return to Him.
Come back.
—
For in that day every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold your sinful hands have made. “Assyria will fall by no human sword; a sword, not of mortals, will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor. Their stronghold will fall because of terror; at the sight of the battle standard their commanders will panic,” declares the Lord , whose fire is in Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
Isaiah 31:7-9
I love how Isaiah reminds them in 31:3 that the Egyptians are mere men, not God, the horses are mere flesh, not spirit (like God).
And for God to wage war on Mt Zion itself (vs 4)… wow, that’s serious! His fire is in Zion, His furnace is in Jerusalem (vs 9). There His hand is against the enemy of Judah, His sword destroys Assyria (vs 8); He protects Judah (vs 5).
Our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). And yet what is eternal will survive the fire. What is temporal will be burned up.
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
1 Corinthians 3:12-15
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life.
