Distinguish Folly from The Divine

After Yahweh had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. Job 42:7

Folly of Eliphaz

“But if I were you, I would appeal to Elohim; I would lay my cause before him. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. He provides rain for the earth; he sends water on the countryside. The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success. He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away. Darkness comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night. He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth. “Blessed is the one whom Elohim corrects; so do not despise the discipline of Shaddai. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal. Job 5:8 – 18

The Divine

Then Yahweh spoke to Job out of the storm:

“Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.

“Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?

Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his?

Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.

Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low, look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand.

Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.

Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.

  1. Knowing the End From the Beginning

Is it wise to pretend we do not know the end when we do?

Should we continue reading the words of Job’s 3 friends as wisdom when we know the indictment of Yahweh on them for their words?

Is it too soon to discuss these words of Yahweh from the closing chapter of the book?

After Yahweh had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what Yahweh told them; and Yahweh accepted Job’s prayer. After Job had prayed for his friends, Yahweh restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble Yahweh had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.

  3. But we have the mind of Christ

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

The Wisdom of the Wise Destroyed

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Here is the WTW heading for the study of Job

    FAITH REQUIRED

By faith we understand that Job’s friends were ultimately speaking foolishly. Let us forsake our own wisdom and seek only God’s wisdom in the WORD, Yeshua our only Savior and LORD.

As noted in the previous post, Job Simplified, regarding the Micro Bible within our canon of sacred graphē

The benefit of reading the words of Job’s friends is tantamount to the benefit of reading the old covenant, though it has been replaced by the new covenant. (Some would say that it is still passing away and will only be obsolete at the fulfillment in the new Jerusalem. But we are already seated with him in heavenly places.)

  4. The message of Job is this

    🤭

Who are you, O man, to talk back to God?

And so, we continue going daily chapter by daily chapter, and every chapter points us directly to Jesus.

The book of Job, especially as the first writing, is an absolutely profound mystery pointing to Messiah.
