Then those who feared Yahweh talked with each other, and Yahweh listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared Yahweh and honored his name. Malachi 3:16

OF (TINY ) MINDS AND MEN
The sphere of the earth
Suspended in vast universe
The earth so tiny
In all the physical world of existence
Occupied by so many people
Infinitely miniscule in the universe
Large and important in each of their own minds
A world alive and bustling
With people, activity, motion, life
Viewed from space
Seemingly uninhabited and unoccupied
Seemingly calm, still, quiet, beautifully serene
Yet wars of tiny men ensue
Seeing all of this, how can one not be amazed
And yet
Though amazed, not all these tiny minds agree
We seek to know, to understand
Created or just happened?
How can they say all this vast universe
Its one tiny life-sphere
With microscopic beings just happened
Where did it happen, when, how
Where was it all located
When it happened to happen
In vast suspension
In all the vast stretches of nothingness
Far surpassing and beyond the scope of
The limited realm of time and space of
This vast physical universe
So microscopic in its existence here
Somewhere in whatever and
Wherever it happened
There must be a Designer, Creator, Maker of it all
And yet
Though amazed, not all these tiny minds agree
There remain questions in minds
Why does God seem distant
Uninvolved, impersonal
Why does God not show Himself to all
Why does God wait so long
Why does God not set Himself up
King over all the earth, visible to all
Why does God let Himself be known
Only by faith
Questions exist only in the minds of men
All else simply fulfills its intended duty
Scripture declares the answers
Though amazed, not all these tiny minds agree

I was reminded of this again
By this similar waking thought
So I searched it out to post again
The recent awaking was as always sudden
As though from a dream
In a dream
Amazed
Yet here we are
Amazed that not all are amazed

INVICTUS
I have had this reminder to rewrite
My previous adaptation
Of William Ernest Henley’s quite
1875 humanistic dictation
Since the search for that erudite
And earliest redepiction
Has been fruitless, these years trite
Here is a new rendition…

Invictus Redeemed
Out of the night that covered me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank my God and JESUS, see
For His unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch, not circumstance
He did not wince nor cry aloud.
Under the bludgeonings, not chance
His head was bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Loomed but the Horror of the shade,
But now the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters now only, strait the gate,
Tho charged with punishments the scroll,
He is the Master of my fate,
He is the Captain of my soul.

Also just recalled this writing, discovered in 2014, reading a chapter heading in Lewis…
“Beware; for fiends in triumph laugh
O’er him who learns the truth by half
Beware; for God will not endure
For men to make their hope more pure
Than His good promise, or require
Another than the five-stringed lyre
Which He has vowed again to the hands
Devout of him who understands
To tune it justly here!”
