Women & The Prophets

WTW 2021
Isaiah, Amos & David

When its twigs are dry, they are broken off and women come and make fires with them. For this is a people without understanding; so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favor. Isaiah 27:11

You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your fine clothes and wrap yourselves in rags. Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers—yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry. Isaiah 32:9‭-‬13

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy and say to your husbands, “Bring us some drinks!” The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness: “The time will surely come when you will be taken away with hooks, the last of you with fishhooks. Amos 4:1‭-‬2

Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me. Psalm 22:12‭-‬13

Memory

Isaiah 32

About 15 years ago, I was reading through the book of Isaiah and a chapter stood out to me, so I memorized it.

It was not chapter 32.

However, reading chapter 32 again now sounds in my heart with echoes of that chapter forever imprinted in my memory. So I want to place them next to each other hear and share the reiterated message.

I am also once again stirred to commit more of God’s WORD, more of these chapters to memory as well. Perhaps others will join me in chapters 32 & 35.

Isaiah 32

See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The fearful heart will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected. For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning Yahweh; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water. Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just. But the noble make noble plans, and by noble deeds they stand.
Isaiah 32:1‭-‬8

Isaiah 35

The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow. And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it. No lion will be there, nor any ravenous beast; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, and those Yahweh has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Isaiah 35:1‭-‬10

Not As Popular

-What do these 3 have in common?

When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”
Mark 10:10‭-‬12

These are the words of JESUS…but they are not quite as popular as J316

The response today to these words of JESUS is similar to the response then to JESUS own words about eating his flesh and drinking his blood.

On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” John 6:60

This itself is exactly what these JESUS students said about divorce & remarriage as Matthew recorded.

And Mark himself continued in that same passage above to record Peter’s recounting of these JESUS students response and interaction with JESUS regarding earthly riches.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

Eusebius Church History
BOOK 5

Introduction

1. Soter, bishop of the church of Rome, died after an episcopate of eight years, and was succeeded by Eleutherus, the twelfth from the apostles. In the seventeenth year of the Emperor Antoninus Verus, the persecution of our people was rekindled more fiercely in certain districts on account of an insurrection of the masses in the cities; and judging by the number in a single nation, myriads suffered martyrdom throughout the world. A record of this was written for posterity, and in truth it is worthy of perpetual remembrance.

4. But our narrative of the government of God will record in ineffaceable letters the most peaceful wars waged in behalf of the peace of the soul, and will tell of men doing brave deeds for truth rather than country, and for piety rather than dearest friends. It will hand down to imperishable remembrance the discipline and the much-tried fortitude of the athletes of religion, the trophies won from demons, the victories over invisible enemies, and the crowns placed upon all their heads.

3. The servants of Christ residing at Vienne and Lyons, in Gaul, to the brethren through out Asia and Phrygia, who hold the same faith and hope of redemption, peace and grace and glory from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

4. Then, having related some other matters, they begin their account in this manner: The greatness of the tribulation in this region, and the fury of the heathen against the saints, and the sufferings of the blessed witnesses, we cannot recount accurately, nor indeed could they possibly be recorded.

5. For with all his might the adversary fell upon us, giving us a foretaste of his unbridled activity at his future coming. He endeavored in every manner to practice and exercise his servants against the servants of God, not only shutting us out from houses and baths and markets, but forbidding any of us to be seen in any place whatever.

6. But the grace of God led the conflict against him, and delivered the weak, and set them as firm pillars, able through patience to endure all the wrath of the Evil One. And they joined battle with him, undergoing all kinds of shame and injury; and regarding their great sufferings as little, they hastened to Christ, manifesting truly that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us afterward.

7. First of all, they endured nobly the injuries heaped upon them by the populace; clamors and blows and draggings and robberies and stonings and imprisonments, and all things which an infuriated mob delight in inflicting on enemies and adversaries.

Ask 10 people

What’s your favorite fruit?

No really, ask 10 people.

And write down their answers.

Use your phone, a piece of paper, anything.

Then ask them what their favorite fruit of the Spirit is.

Seriously, do that.

Take notes, talk with these 10 people, and let the LORD take it from there.

Then, be sure to share what conversations you had today in your daily walk with the LORD and in evangelism and discipleship.

Ask me, and I’ll share some conversations from this week regarding youth testimonies and discipleship.

The Powerful Gospel

The Good News will wreck your world. It will mess with your life, your sin, your plans, your theology, your thinking, your family, your relationships, your work, your possessions, your school, your friends, your leisure, your entertainment, your everything.

The Good News is at once More Grace and More Righteousness. It will shock the righteous with an unpalatable amount of transforming grace to the repentant sinner, and it will anger the sinner with an inhuman level of holiness.

The Good News will cause great upheaval. It will create sleepless nights and restful days. It will create peace in the midst of storms and cause division in a society and among a people who have not before tasted heaven and experienced the gift of divine forgiveness, love, righteousness, peace and grace.

The Good News is hidden in plain sight. It is in your mouth and in your heart, yet it is not often recognized, rarely lived to the full. It is the pearl of great price, the gem of God offered for all yet despised by most. It is the simple life. It is grace and peace. It is love and joy. It is kindness, forgiveness, abundant life.

The Good News is the greatest miracle of Life. It calls to the simple to find wisdom, to the wise to find humility. It cries out to the generations hustling about to listen to the ever present voice of the Shepherd, to find the ancient paths, to seek out the High Way, to return to the hidden place, the Shelter of Shaddai, the Shadow of Elyon.

The Good News calls for the children of Abba, Yahweh Sabaoth to walk as brothers and sisters with Elder and firstborn brother Yeshua and to seek after Him, to follow hard after Him, to love Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. It is at once the narrow path and the way of the light burden. It is the path which is hard to find, yet easy to walk.

The Good News is painful to the flesh yet sweet to the spirit. It cost everything yet the price has been paid and costs no more for those who give up everything. It requires nothing but giving up everything. It is the deal of the ages, the offer we cannot, yay must not refuse. It is life to those who find it, health to those who seek it, love to those who are found in it.

The Good News is the meaning of life and the reason for living. The Good News is Jesus Christ, the Chosen Savior. He is our Jubilee, our Sabbath, our מְנוּחָה menucha, our eternal rest. He is our joy, our freedom, our Agape, our חַיִּים chayyim. He is our Good News, our everything.

Return

Isaiah 31

Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.

Isaiah 31:6‭

God’s heart cry is always and forever for His people to return to Him, their Maker and Lover of their souls.

Return to Him.

Come back.

For in that day every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold your sinful hands have made. “Assyria will fall by no human sword; a sword, not of mortals, will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor. Their stronghold will fall because of terror; at the sight of the battle standard their commanders will panic,” declares the Lord , whose fire is in Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
Isaiah 31:7-‬9

Isaiah 30

“Woe to the obstinate children,” declares the Lord, “to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin.
Isaiah 30:1

Heavenly Father,

Help us. Help us hear. Help us hear You. Help us hear You clearly. Help us hear You clearly and only be united with and in You. Help us be united in You. Help us be One with You as You are One with Your Son. Help us be One together with You in Your Son. Help us truly relinquish any and all plans that are not Yours. Help us spend all the heart, soul, mind, strength and life You have lent us to carry out Your plans by Your Spirit alone, ALL ONE.

Tertullian

Tertullian, Latin in full Quintus Septimus Florens Tertullianus, (born c. 155, /160, Carthage [now in Tunisia]—died after 220, Carthage), important early Christian theologian, polemicist, and moralist who, as the initiator of ecclesiastical Latin, was instrumental in shaping the vocabulary and thought of Western Christianity.

Though we know very little about the details of his conversion, he said that he could not imagine a truly Christian life without a conscious breach, a radical act of conversion. Prior to his conversion, he indulged in the typical licentiousness of Roman society, including sexual promiscuity and enjoying the games in the arena. He was profoundly affected by the testimonies of Christians who were martyred in the arena, and it is likely that his conversion was a result.
